LOWER POTOMAC RIVER MARYLAND MARATHON STATE #46

PINEY POINT LIGHTHOUSE

OLD MAN WINTER PACK YOUR BAGS !!
THIS WAS THE SIGN THAT GREETED US IN ST GEORGE ISLAND PINEY POINT MARYLAND.  THIS WAS THE SECOND ATTEMPT TO RUN IN MARYLAND AS THE OLD MAN SNOWED OUT GREENBELT MD A FEW WEEKS AGO.
DEBBIE CAME ALONG TO CHEER, CHAUFFEUR AND ENJOY SOME GREAT CRAB AND WATER VIEWS.

TREVOR 50 STATE SOCCER PLAYER
AT SOLOMON’S ISLAND
IT IS FUN TO TALK (BRAG) ABOUT THE 50 STATE ADVENTURE BECAUSE YOU  MEET THE MOST INTERESTING FOLKS.  THIS IS TREVOR A GREAT WAITER AND A 27 YR OLD YOUNG MAN WHO HAS KICKED A SOCCER BALL IN ALL 50 STATES.  SO THERE RUNNERS. LAST I CHECKED IT TAKES 22 PEOPLE TO HAVE A SOCCER GAME. WELL DONE TREVOR. THE MEAL WAS INCREDIBLE THANKS TO TRVOR’S HELP. AT THE NEXT TABLE WERE THESE TWO YOUNG LADIES VICKI AND BARBARA WHO HAD JUST DRIVEN ALL THE WAY FROM GEORGIA TO GET A DEAL ON THEIR DREAM CAR A BEAUTIFUL  MDX. THEY WERE LAST SEEN SMILING AND ENJOYING THE NEW CAR SMELL ALL THE WAY DOWN THE EAST COAST. CONGRATS GIRLS AND HOPE YOU WILL DRIVE TO A MARATHON AND DRINK SOME GATORADE OR WINE  WITH THE 50 STATERS.

WE LOVED MARYLAND AND ALL OUR NEW PALS.

BIG  YES TO CRAB CAKES

AFTER DINNER WE GAVE DEB’S NEW NEON MECHANIC GLOVES A WALK. PLEASE RETURN HER OLD ONES IF YOU FIND THEM. THEY ARE SOMEWHERE IN THE U.S.

DOESN’T EVERY GOOD GETAWAY INCLUDE WATER AND A SUNSET ?

MEMORIES OF HOME- CANADA GEESE TRACKS AND THE S- WORD.
WE EXPLORED THE AREA, FOUND A LIGHTHOUSE, OLD NAVAL TESTING GROUNDS AND A POTENTIAL FOR A DIRTY JOKE.

THE POTOMAC WAS SO WIDE YOU WOULD SWEAR IT WAS THE OCEAN- REALLY

I JUST LOVED THESE SHAPES

THE PACKET PICK UP WAS IN A SAILOR SCHOOL FOR THE SAILOR’S UNION. THIS IS THE CAPTAIN PHILLIPS SHIP , RESCUE SHIP AND LIFEBOAT. A REAL PHOTO OF THE REAL INCIDENT.  ALL THE GUYS ON THE MERSK WERE FROM THIS UNION.
LATELY THE BEST PART OF THE 50 STATES IS TOUCHING HISTORY.

WE HAD A GREAT MEAL AND MADE A NEW FRIEND COURTNEY A MOONLIGHTING KINDERGARTEN TEACHER WHO WAS A LIFE LONG RESIDENT FROM THE AREA. SHE LOVES  THE AREA,  AND HER JOB(S). BUT THINK ABOUT THESE HARDWORKING DEDICATED FOLKS NEXT TIME THERE IS A REFERENDUM.  REMEMBER  THIS  PLEASE. KINDERGARTEN  TEACHERS NEED TO BE TAKING A NAP ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON OR GOING TO GRAD SCHOOL. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. ANYWAY THANKS FOR A GREAT MEAL COURTNEY AND KEEP UP THE HARD WORK.

HERE IS PART OF THE AVIATION MUSEUM AT PATUXENT RIVER NAVAL AIR BASE.  LOTS OF FAST PLANES AND EXOTIC HELICOPTERS.

JODY FROM ASHBURN, VA
A HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEKEND WAS RUNNING WITH JODY R WHO STAYED WITH US IN NOVEMBER. JODY RAN #98 AND IS CLOSING IN ON HER 100TH. WELL DONE MY FRIEND.

THIS WAS SOME OF THE SCENERY FROM THE RACE. THE ROUTE WENT THRU ST GEORGE ISLAND WHICH WAS LOVELY. SINCE IT WAS A BRISK 5:45 CUTOFF I RAN CAMERA FREE AND SHOCKED MYSELF WITH A 5:23. I GUESS SNAPPING THOSE MID RACE PICS EATS UP THE CLOCK.  THE SECOND HALF OF THE RACE WAS ON THE VERY WINDY  SHOULDER OF A RURAL HIGHWAY. IT FELT LIKE A 50 MILE OUT AND BACK. I AMUSED MYSELF BY WONDERING IF THE 200 OR SO EMPTY  ONE SHOT LIQUOR BOTTLES  TOSSED ON THE SIDE WERE FROM ONE PERSON OR  THIS IS NORMAL ROADSIDE LITTER. WERE THEY FROM AFTER WORK OR BEFORE ? WAS IT A PERSON WHO WORKED ON AN AIRPLANE ? SPEAKING OF COCKTAILS JODY DID FIND  HER  MANDATORY  BEER AT MILE 18, STOPPED  COMPLAINING ABOUT THE WIND AND SPRINTED INTO THE FINISH.
ANOTHER RACE HIGHLIGHT WAS THE KOREAN RUNNING CLUB PARTICIPATION. THE RACE STARTED WITH A GONG, THERE WAS A NICE PACK OF LADIES HAVING A BLAST AND ENJOYING THE SIGHTS AND A GREAT 2 WAY SUPER  AID STATION THAT HAD EVERYTHING A RUNNER COULD WANT.

YOU CAN GO IN BUT NOT OUT MY LITTLE CRABS.

DEBBIE WAS GLAD TO HAVE THIS ONE IN THE BOOKS.  SHE AMUSED THE BACK OF THE PACK BY DRIVING TO THE LAST FEW MILE MARKERS  LIFTING THEM UP AND  WEEPING SAYING “THIS IS TOO FAR, IT’S SO FAR.  THIS RACE IS JUST TOO FAR.” I DID NOT HAVE THE HEART TO GENTLY INFORM HER THAT A MARATHON IS  SIMPLY AND ALWAYS 26.2 MILES.
THE MILE MARKERS WERE MY FAVORITE PART. IF YOU CAN PICTURE A GALLON ZIPLOC BAG WITH  A HOMEADE NUMBER ON NEON PAPER SITTING ON THE GROUND YOU HAVE IT.  THE BAGS WERE WEIGHTED WITH EMPTY CATFOOD OR FLOUR BAGS FILLED WITH ROCKS OR SAND.

AFTER THE RACE THERE WERE SHOWERS -HEAVEN AND A HOT MEAL. WE SCOOTED TO THE D.C.  AIRPORT,  ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW ENROUTE  TO YELL AT THE CAPITOL TO GET TO WORK FOR THE PEOPLE AND STOP THE BICKERING.

THE  HUGE TIKI BAR IN SOLOMON’S ISLAND WILL SOON BE ROCKING

HANG ON PEOPLE THOSE CROCUS  AND DAFFODILS ARE COMING.
REALLY.

NEXT STOP IS A JUST FOR FUN MARATHON IN VIRGINIA BEACH TO CELEBRATE WITH THE 50 STATERS.
THE FOUR REMAINING STATES ARE TACOMA  WA AND VERMONT IN MAY.  WYOMING IN AUGUST AND THE GRAND FINALE – DES MOINES IOWA   IN OCTOBER .
A NICE PARTY IS PLANNED FOR DES MOINES, I HOPE YOU WILL CONSIDER ATTENDING. LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE IN.
LOVE TO ALL
MAKE IT A GREAT DAY
THANK YOU FOR READING.
