FINISH DAY 2

THIS WAS A WONDERFUL DOUBLE ON THE IDAHO UTAH BORDER RUNNING AROUND BEAR LAKE THAT JUST HAPPENS TO BE 52 MILES AROUND.

FRIDAY WE WOULD RUN THE IDAHO SIDE OF THE LAKE AND SATURDAY DO THE UTAH SIDE.   ENROUTE FROM SALT LAKE CITY THE DRIVE THROUGH LOGAN CANYON WAS SPECTACULAR.   WHEN I CAME OVER THE LAST RISE TO SEE THE LAKE BELOW IT LOOKED BEAUTIFUL AND A REALLY  LONG WAY AROUND.

THURSDAY I HAD MY FIRST VACATION DAY WITHOUT AN AIRPORT OR PACKET PICK UP OR A MARATHON SINCE NOVEMBER AND ENJOYED SOME GREAT SIGHTSEEING.  THE MINNETONKA CAVE WAS SPECTACULAR AND COOL… 40′ TO BE EXACT.  I WAS THE FIRST EVER  CUSTOMER FOR RILEY THE TOUR GUIDE AND I LEARNED QUITE A BIT ABOUT THE CAVE AND HIGH SCHOOL LIFE IN UTAH. THEY HAVE AN 8 HOUR DAY,  4 DAY WEEK AND GET OUT IN MID MAY AND TAKE LOTS OF SNOW DAYS. AND THE BUS RIDE TO SCHOOL IS 1 HOUR.

I FOUND MY DREAM CAR THE 57 CHEVY  3 ROW WAGON ABANDONED IN A BARN YARD.   IF HOME WAS CLOSER THAT LITTLE BABY  WOULD HAVE COME HOME.

THERE WERE SOME GREAT OLD OLD BUILDINGS THAT I JUST ENJOYED THOROUGHLY.

SO ABOUT THE MORMONS…. FOUND A PLAQUE DETAILING A MIRACLE BAPTISM,  FOUND A HUGE  CHURCH IN A TOWN WITH A POPULATION 75.   THE CHURCH  WAS ORDERED BY BRIGHAM YOUNG AFTER A VISION,  SAW A FAMILY WITH 11 PLUS KIDS,  A FEW WIVES AND 1 MAN HAVING BREAKFAST.   DECIDED NOT TO JUDGE- AFTER ALL  I WAS A VISITOR.   I ALSO HAD AN INTERESTING CONVERSATION ON THE BUS TO THE START OF DAY 2 WITH A 23 YR OLD MORMON  YOUNG MAN.  I  ASKED WHETHER YOUNG WOMEN DID THE  TRADITIONAL MISSION TRIP IN THEIR LATE TEENS- HE SAID THEY COULD BUT REALLY  THE  ONLY GOAL WAS TO  COMPLETELY BE THERE  FOR THE HUSBAND…… ANYWAY I HAD A GREAT DAY ENJOYING THE SPECTACULAR SCENERY,  APPRECIATING THE COVERED WAGON TRAVELERS  AND GOT MY COWGIRL ON WITH A RANCH HAND BREAKFAST LOOKING AT SOME SNOW CAP MOUNTAINS.

LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON THERE WAS A RUMOR FLYING AROUND THE CONDOS THAT THERE WAS AN OPTIONAL  4 AM START.  WHEN I WOKE UP AT 12:45 READY TO GO THAT NIGHT  IT BECAME A  REALLY GOOD IDEA.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR A RACE  ?  EASY:  A PARKING LOT OF THE LDS CHURCH,    2 PORTA POTS,   A FEW HEADLAMPS AND 7 KNUCKLEHEADS INCLUDING THE FAMOUS LARRY MACON … YOU’VE  GOT YOURSELF A MARATHON.

WE HAD A FEW HOURS OF COOL TEMPS, DARKNESS AND A BRISK WALKING PACE.  I WORKED  HARD AND  GOT TO MILE 13 IN 3:30 -DEBBIE MOLONEY HOW DO YOU DO A 3:10 WALKING  A  HALF ??  THAT IS INSANELY FAST WALKING .  AT 13  I THOUGHT-NANCY YOU ONLY HAVE 39 MORE MILES TO DO THIS WEEKEND.   YIKES.

SAW JESSICA W. AND PATRICK S.  FROM MASSACHUSETTS WHOM I HAD MET RUNNING IN ALASKA – THEY WERE FLYING, DOING  A 5:30 PACE.  THE SMOKE WAS COMING OFF THE ROAD FOR THOSE TWO.  DID THE BACK HALF WITH CINDI FROM INDY.   THE LAST MILES WERE A LITTLE HOT AND DRY.   I RAN IN A LITTLE BIT WITH DANIEL FROM TENNESSEE DRESSED IN ALL ORANGE.  GO VOLS !!

THE FINISH LINE WAS A CARD TABLE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD.  I HEARD THAT A PREVIOUS YEAR THE FINISH WAS A SWIM NOODLE ON THE GROUND, SO THIS WAS VERY HIGH TECH.  I REALLY ENJOYED THE DAY AND WALKING WAS DELIGHTFUL- 6:53.45  THEY HAD NO RECORD OF ME OR A BUNCH OF OTHERS  IN THE RACE AND TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY. IT TOOK A WEEK TO SORT IT OUT BUT ALL IS WELL.  IDAHO, STATE 40 IS DONE.

DAY 2 STARTED WITH CRAMMING THE ENTIRE MARATHON RACE INTO 2 BUSES. A FEW FOLKS TOOK AN EARLY START BUT THAT REQUIRED 2 CARS AND 2 DRIVERS. WE HAD 2 CARS AND 2 DRIVERS BETWEEN PATRICK JESSICA AND MYSELF BUT WE DID NOT THINK OF IT UNTIL THE WHOLE BUS THING WAS OVER.
I STARTED AS SOON AS THE BUS STOPPED AND CAUGHT UP TO JESSICA TO HAVE A REAL CONVERSATION INSTEAD OF A FB POST. 26 MILES LATER WE WERE DONE.  WE HAD A DELIGHTFUL TIME. THERE WAS A PYRAMID AND  A GREAT WATER STOP WITH 2 FELLOWS THAT  WAITED AT THE FINISH WITH MY CLOTHING DISCARDS.  THE VIEWS WERE SPECTACULAR EVERY MILE. BEFORE JESSICA MADE BEST FRIENDS WITH HER FAVORITE MILE OF ALL WE DID SOME MILES WITH JAMIE M FROM WYOMING WHO WAS DOING HER FIRST MARATHON. SHE TOUGHED IT OUT AND FINISHED IN HER GOAL TIME.  PATRICK FOUND US WITH ABOUT A MILE TO GO IN A CAR AND THERE WAS SOME FANCY BACKWARD DRIVING AND I WAS CALLED A FINE LOOKING FILLY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.  PASS THE OATS.
I FINISHED IN 5:53. 45 EXACTLY 1 HOUR FASTER THAN DAY 1. STATE NUMBER 41 DONE.

THIS FINE FILLY HEADED OFF TO  A HOTEL NEAR THE SALT LAKE CITY AIRPORT TO MAKE THE  EARLY  FLIGHT  THE NEXT DAY.  SUNDAY NIGHT BINGO AT THE CONDO WAS CALLING MY NAME.   DEBBIE AND I ARE THE ONLY ONES LEFT IN THE ASSOCIATION THAT CAN MOVE TABLES AND CHAIRS SO WE ARE THE  SUMMER SOCIAL DIVAS.

WAS THIS REALLY A DOUBLE AND DID  IT HAPPEN  ON JUST BIKING AND SWIMMING  TRAINING AND NO RUNNING ?.  WAKE ME UP AUNTIE EM.
NO TRAVEL BETWEEN  BOTH RACES, RELAXED RACE DIRECTOR, BLUE SKIES AND WATER VIEWS  EQUALED A PERFECT TRIP.

NEXT STOP IS MONTANA IN JULY,  IT IS HOTTER THAN HELL NOW  HERE IN FLORIDA,  DEBBIE IS BACK IN ILLINOIS FOR A SPELL AND THAT IS MY STORY.

BE WELL MY FRIENDS AND  ALSO KIND TO ONE ANOTHER.
